Ready, Set, Organize: Part II

As promised, my office is back in working order.

It took a little elbow grease [and a lot of stick-to-it-ness], but the job is done.

Unfortunately, the after shots were just plain boring. So, instead, here are three random items I found whilst cleaning.

FOUR graphing calculators; all of which belong to Jeff. (Nerd)
A little nugget of history.
"Ryan's Funny Stories" (written and illustrated by yours truly on 11/27/1993)

All in all, a pretty boring reveal - you have my apologies.

As it turns out, a well organized drawer just doesn't have the "wow" factor that I was looking for.

Maybe next time I'll tackle our crawl space?

Blossom

jasmine blossom tea. from erin boyle on Vimeo.

Reasons I find this inspiring:

(1) I happen to have two bulbs of blossom tea in my pantry, (2) I am currently trying to teach myself to make low-tech videos, and (3) I think it's beautiful.

Happy Friday.

Ready, Set, Organize

What you are about to see is not pretty.

I usually pride myself on my organizational skills; however, school has done a number on what I once considered to be the most comforting space in my house, my office.

Unfortunately, as made evident below, my desk has evolved into an overflowing mess of card stock, loose files, books, boxes, and binders. I had originally intended on doing a before and after post on this subject, however, competing priorities have slowed the after portion of the process. So, in an attempt to shame myself into taking the time to re-organize, I am posting the before shots now.

Okay, here we go.

On the outside, things don't look too bad.

But, on the inside...

(Kids, close your eyes.)

I know, I am embarrassed for me, too.

In the opposing corner, you will find another deceptively tidy work space.

Don't be fooled:

I hereby pledge to post the after shots no later than Sunday, January 22.

(I feel like I just stepped out of a confessional.)

 Yours truly,

Cats have feelings, too.

Pinterest
After publishing this post on Thursday, my maternal guilt set in.

Jeff and I also have two cats, Leo and Chance:

While it always strikes me as odd when I hear a person claim that they are not a cat person, I'm not here to judge. I don't really fancy myself an iguana person, so I guess I can understand the sentiment.

Did you know that cats are the only animals on the planet to have domesticated themselves?

I say this, because I know that my cats don't need me - at least not in the same way that Toby needs me. Sure, we recently spent two nights at the emergency veterinary hospital with our oldest cat Leo - who is currently on Prozac - but that's because he's a diva and we are enablers.

So, before I get on my soap box about the love and loyalty of a cat, I will do the more graceful thing and quietly pay homage.

Here's to Leo and Chance, my little babies who choose to love me.

P.S. Yes, they all get along:

Kale is for Lovers

According to my list of resolutions for 2012, I'm trying to move toward a whole food, plant-based diet. This resolution was inspired by the documentary, Forks Over Knives - which I highly recommend that everyone watch as soon as possible.

While I am an avid supporter of the movement, I have hit some road blocks; mainly, grad school. [My diet currently consists of coffee, Combos, and Hot Tamales.] For what it's worth, however, we are juicing at least once a day - and I am writing that off as a good first step.

Every evening, Jeff and I share a pitcher of juiced kale, carrots, apples, ginger, spinach, lemons, pears, and oranges. It's a bonding experience [to say the least] as we narrowly finish each glass. To make the experience a little less painful, we always top our juice off with a straw.

Don't laugh, the straw helps.

We began juicing about six months ago and have wavered in our commitment to the cause. We'll go three weeks, juice every day, and then we'll have one bad batch of kale and call it quits. To be fair, you will never taste anything so awful as rotten kale.

To keep this train on the right track, a supportive friend of ours gave us a new set of straws.

Yes, I agree, this is an extremely thoughtful and kind friend. And let me be clear, she didn't just give us any ol' set of straws; they are eco-friendly, biodegradable, paper straws, made with food safe ink. [Resisting the urge to squeal.]

I am not sure if it is my obsession with paper products, or my preference to sip instead of gulp; but I am pretty pleased right now.

Happy Wednesday,
