Memorial Day Mantra

Words Over Pixels
While I am in class today, trying not to have a finals-induced-nervous-breakdown, I will do my best not to resent those of you who are pool side. Have a veggie burger for me, please.

Happy Memorial Day.

It could be worse, no?

Every night is a little bit different in our house. Sometimes we cook dinner, and sometimes we eat cheese straight off of the cutting board; sometimes we have a glass of wine, and sometimes we drink the entire bottle; sometimes I'm a stressed-out-controlling girlfriend, and sometimes I make cupcakes. You get the idea.

I will say, however, that there are three constants in our everyday life - pictured above. (I know I obsess over my animals, but give me a break, they are pretty darn adorable and we bottle fed one of them, so I feel like we have the right to obsess.) Anyhow, this is a typical Thursday night - we turn off the iPad, laptops, etc., and catch up on our "shows". I'm not sure why I'm sharing this exactly, but it's nice to be reminded that .... well, that life could be worse.

I mean, look at this guy - does he look like he cares when my projects are due or where we are moving to, or whether or not I send that email out tonight? Um, no.

I hope you all have a great weekend! My schedule over the next few days will look a little something like this: pack boxes, study, eat, drink, study some more, drink, repeat. It should be productive.

Okay, since you asked, here's one more photo of me and the boys.

Happy Friday,

Monday Mantra, etc.

Hype
This blog is somewhat of a "wild promise" to myself. I started it because I wanted to chronicle my life as a student, an "artistpreneur", daughter, sister, etc. However, I sorely underestimated the amount of time I would spend chained to this laptop, staring at an InDesign file, praying that the two cups of coffee [I likely downed] would carry me through the evening - or, at least, keep my eyes open until class. Honestly, it's been a wild 15 weeks, but I wouldn't give it up for anything. (Besides maybe a good night's sleep and a regular paycheck...just kidding...but not really.)

Having said this, I thought I'd share a glimpse into this weird world I've been living in -- below are a few projects I've been working on (all of which are still in the comp stage.)

1. Whiskey Bottle - brand, label, etc.

PS: It's apple juice.

2. I developed the concept and brand for a "paper florist" who uses [solely] recycled papers to create arrangements, bouquets, and the like.

3. And then there was the desk calendar I did at 3:00 AM.

4. My favorite projects as of late - a line of organic soap.

The last project will forever make me smile as it reminds me that my boyfriend, Jeff, is a patient saint who must love me very much. Long story short, bar soap doesn't melt - it cooks, and then expands (like a marshmallow in a microwave). I learned this the hard way; and if it weren't for Jeff - this project would have ended with me crying on the kitchen floor, covered in pink food coloring and soap residue. Again, he is a saint - and I thank god for his degree in biology every day.

So, that's it. That's what I've been up to recently. To quote a friend, "my life has been devoured by art" - or, something like it - and I hereby promise to post with a bit more consistency.

Happy Monday, all.  Here's to a great week - -

Monday Mantra

Project Type
I swear, I plan on actually writing a blog post soon - just as soon as my head is above water! School is a beast; and I am going to catch you up on all of the gory details as soon as possible. In the mean time, I hope you're enjoying these little inspirational nuggets from the world wide web. This one makes me smile.

Love,

Monday Manta

Today's mantra is for my mother, whose birthday happens to be today. (Strangely enough, she's  traveling in Asia right now, so her birthday was yesterday, too!)

As a gift, I designed and framed the above print - both in honor of my Nana (who is beautifully missed) and as a special note to my mom.

My mom is the strongest, most beautiful woman I know - - and I can only pray that I'll grow up to be half the mother, sister, wife, friend and daughter that she is today.

I love you, Mama. Happy Birthday!

Style Envy - AKA - Procrastination

Lilly Unique
It has been a wild couple of weeks. The spring quarter began at the end of March, and it has been non-stop ever since. In the last three weeks I have designed and produced a bottle of whiskey, a line of soap, a line of wrapping paper, and a line of dinnerware. It may not sound like a lot, but in terms of the "creative process" - it's a ton.

So, while I should be catching up on project narratives and studying for midterms - I spent a solid hour this morning perusing the world wide web "for inspiration" - this is what I tell myself.

I know, there's no rhyme or reason to this post. I am pretty sure that I just needed some downtime. Canary colored pants should have been a red flag.

Enjoy your Thursday; the weekend is oh-so-close!
